T’ai
Chi Chih is a form of moving meditation that incorporates deep breathing
and mental imagery with a set of slow, no-impact movements developed to
increase the circulation of Chi (energy, or vital life force). These
easy-to-learn movements improve balance, energy, flexibility and general
well-being and can be done by anyone of any age or physical ability.
T’ai Chi Chih practice is not strenuous exercise. Its 20
simple movements are slow, graceful and easy to learn. As a moving
meditation, it is a gentle, yet very powerful centering experience in
which the body also gets to participate.
Studies on the health benefits of the different forms of
T’ai Chi include Tufts University School of Medicine and The American
Medical Association. Studies published indicate that T’ai Chi Chih may:
-
boost the immune system
-
build bone mass
-
lower blood pressure
-
lower total cholesterol
-
reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol
-
benefit people with fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis,
and various forms of arthritis
St. David’s offers T’ai Chi Chih practice sessions every
Wednesday afternoon,
4-5 PM, in
