Welcome from the Wardens
On behalf of the leadership team of our
rector two wardens and nine vestry members, welcome to St David’s
Episcopal Church. We are a community Kinnelon and the neighboring
communities of Butler, Bloomingdale and West Milford. Our
ministries include worship, Christian education, youth group,
pastoral care for our members in need, hospitality (particularly to
new members), fellowship events, Men’s Group and Readers Circle, to
name a few. We are a member with 111 other northern New Jersey
churches in the Episcopal Diocese of Newark.
Our Outreach ministries include Willing
Hands, a program of work, education and recreation for
developmentally disadvantaged adults, conducting a monthly worship
service at the Merry Heart Nursing Home, providing a meal once a
month for homeless men at St Paul’s Shelter in Paterson, and
support to homeless families at St Anthony’s Shelter, the hungry
through the Kinnelon Food Pantry and infants and young children
through North Porch which is operated by the Episcopal Diocese of
Newark.
Our parish family looks forward to
welcoming you at one of our worship services and to become part of
our faith community
Welcome from
the Reverend David DeSmith
Welcome to the St. David’s website. We
are delighted that you found us here where we can tell you about who
and what we are as an Episcopal congregation. You will find a
variety of ways we express our faith in god and how we return that
faith in love to all people. Of course, the best way to find out
about us is to join us in worship and ministry as we strive to
follow Jesus by welcoming everyone with outstretched hands and open
hearts. We are here for god. We are here for each other. We are
here for you. In faith, David DeSmith, priest/rector.

Vestry
What is a vestry? Congregations
that have been granted parish status by their diocese are
governed by their rector and the vestry. Traditionally, and
by canon law, the vestry, consisting of wardens and other
members, is the legal representative of the parish “in all
matters concerning its corporate property and the relations
of the Parish to its Clergy,” except as may be provided by
state law or diocesan canons. The number of vestry members
and term of office varies from parish to parish.
The Presiding Officer is the
rector. There are usually two wardens. The senior warden
traditionally chairs the vestry in the absence of the rector
and leads the congregation between rectors. In many
parishes the senior warden is a support person for the
rector. The junior warden often has a particular
responsibility for church property and buildings. The
responsibility of the vestry is to help define, support and
ensure effective organization and planning in order to meet
the mission of the congregation. Further, the vestry must
ensure adequate resources in leadership and in financial
stewardship, in addition t determining that appropriate
programs, policies and procedures have been developed and
are followed. |
